Beatles Still Bigger Than Jesus

Beatles Still Bigger Than Jesus

The Fab Four remain one of the best-selling bands on the planet.

Other recent developments speak to the Beatles' enduring popularity: To boost local tourism, the city of Hamburg -- where the Beatles lived when they were still the Fab Five -- recently opened a Beatles-themed museum; it also renamed a local square Beatles Platz.

The Mirage Las Vegas is set to host a Beatles-themed installment of Cirque du Soleil, and a digitally-remastered Beatles box set is set to release later this year. Old Beatles ticket stubs are worth up to $750, and autographed LPs are selling on eBay (EBAY) for thousands of dollars.

On the more bizarre side of Beatlemania: One English couple is selling a couple of barber chairs once used by the band. After coming across the chairs at a salon supply sale, the couple is hoping to get around $16,000 apiece for them. They’re even trying to sweeten the deal by including a lock of John Lennon’s hair, which they themselves bought on eBay for around $240.

Despite their unceasing appeal, the Beatles have proven surprisingly inaccessible in the digital world. That could soon change. In 2007, the band settled its long-running lawsuit with Apple (AAPL), inspiring speculation that the Beatles would soon appear in the company’s iTunes music store. (The rumors that increased the value of Apple’s shares 6%.)

And given that Rock Band may usher in the group’s iTunes debut, a whole new Beatles revolution could be underway.

Good article, silly title. Jesus has had it 'goin' on' for 20 centuries plus, and was being anticipated 10 or so before that.

When all the 'boomers' are gone, start buying puts on all those Beatle entities.

I am a leading edge boomer and I do not like the Beatles, and most of my friends did n

The article title is a riff on a John Lennon quote. It's *his* assertion that the Beatles were "bigger than Jesus". Scary thing is that it's an accurate assessment among a lot of people.

Quotations and quibbles
